PAIRING · GAGGIA CLASSIC PRO (E24) · $600–1,000 COMBINED
The Gaggia Classic Pro is a pump, a brass boiler, a 58mm portafilter, and nothing else. It will happily show you every mistake your grinder makes.
The Classic Pro (E24) is a simple, commercial-sized machine with no auto anything. That is why people love it, and why the grinder next to it matters even more than usual. Our picks are based on specs, the manuals, and price. We have not tested these pairings ourselves.

Grinder option 1: Baratza Encore ESP (the floor)

The cheapest grinder we would put here. It has a dedicated espresso range (#1–20), and it ships with a 58mm adapter for its dosing cup, so it grinds cleanly into the Gaggia’s portafilter. Pair it with the traditional basket, not the pressurized one. Details on the Encore ESP page.
Grinder option 2: Baratza Sette 270 (the match)

Stepless micro adjustment on top of 31 macro steps, timed dosing in 0.1 sec steps, and adjustable arms that Baratza says hold most portafilter sizes. This is the grinder that matches how fussy a traditional 58mm basket can get. Details on the Sette 270 page.

Keep it alive
Gaggia’s manual says to descale about every 2 months with Gaggia’s own descaler, and never with vinegar. The full routine is on our maintenance page.
